As a result of a cooperation between the Danish outdoor brand and member of the Scandinavian Outdoor Group, Nordisk, the mayor and city council of the Japanese city of Inabe and the Royal Danish Embassy in Tokyo, Scandinavian outdoor lifestyle can soon be experienced in Japan in the new Nordisk Hygge Circles // Ugakei park, to be opened next spring.
The Nordisk brand is extraordinarily popular in Japan. Its products have become a symbol for experiencing the good life in nature as a direct contrast to busy city life. Due to its overwhelming popularity, Nordisk has started to organize annual Hygge Camps, which are essentially an idyllic celebration of nature and Danish Hygge. Hundreds of Japanese bring their entire outdoor and camping equipment to the foot of Mount Fuji, where they live “the Danish dream” for three days and share a large sustainable community.
Due to the great success of the camps, the city of Inabe officially contacted Nordisk and asked for cooperation in setting up the permanent Hygge park. Together, the partnership launched an architectural competition, which was won by Danish sustainability experts Third Nature in a joint bid with Henrik Innovation and Japanese engineers Structured Environment.
