Salming Running, a Swedish brand, has been appointed as official footwear partner of the Xterra America Tour and U.S. championship. The tour consists of more than 100 off-road triathlons and trail runs held across the U.S. Tom Kiely, chief executive of Xterra, said that the partnership was sealed with Tor Swenson, his counterpart at Salming North America, and it may eventually extend to Xterra Europe and beyond. Salming Running is part of Salming Sport, a Swedish company named after Börje Salming, the ice hockey player. It was previously most widely known in Europe for its floorball equipment and products relating to other indoor sports, from handball to squash, but in the recent years it has expanded more rapidly in the running market. Salming operates RunLabs in Stockholm and Gothenburg, where the company is established. Xterra is owned and produced by Team Unlimited, a Hawaii-based television events and marketing company. This year it will run more than 300 Xterra off-road triathlon and trail running races in 25 countries.
