Like Aku, Diadora and some other Italian brands, Asolo is resuming production in Italy for some of its shoes. It is hiring 20 people for the manufacture of its “alpine” line of climbing and ice climbing shoes, starting with the spring/summer 2016 collection. The company has been making all its shoes in Romania after selling a Ukrainian facility to Ara Shoes at the end of 2013. Unlike some other outdoor footwear brands, it has refrained from outsourcing any of its products in Asia and from diversifying into trail running or rock climbing. The Italian company, which owned Lowe Alpine for a while, has also decided to concentrate on footwear, without adding any accessories. Its sales grew by about 7 percent last year to around €25 million, with the Italian market representing 15 percent of the turnover.
