Au Vieux Campeur, the leading French outdoor retailer, has started selling a range of products on its website. The offering started last month with backpacks and food but was rapidly expanded with sleeping bags, camping furniture and climbing equipment. It should be widened further in the coming months but the retailer still plans to refrain from selling any apparel and footwear online. Au Vieux Campeur, which has nine stores, already offered mail-order sales through a very thick catalog, but regards this chiefly as a complementary sales channel, for consumers who are remote from any Vieux Campeur store.
