Authentic Brands Group (ABG) has completed the acquisition of Spyder Active Sports, the snow-wear brand from Boulder, Colorado, for an undisclosed price, from the private equity firm Apax Partners, which had bought the brand in 2004 for about $100 million. In connection with the acquisition, ABG and LF USA, the American arm of Li & Fung, have entered into a partnership that establishes LF USA as the exclusive licensee in North America, South America, and Central America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa for all current in-market and footwear products bearing the Spyder brand. ABG is a New York-based intellectual property corporation owned by Jamie Salter, founder of Ride Snowboards, and other executives who have been involved in the sporting goods business. ABG recently acquired Prince and Ektelon. Spyder represents the first outdoor and winter sports brand in ABG's growing portfolio, which also includes labels such as Sportcraft (lawn and table-top games), TapouT (martial arts) and Bobby Jones (golf), among others. Spyder had sales of about $125 million last year. (more in SGI Europe).
