Balega Socks, a company from North Carolina specializing in performance socks, has been acquired by Implus Corporation, a group that owns a slew of brands in the footwear, sports and fitness markets, such as Sof Sole, Yaktrax, Airplus, Sneaker Balls, Icetrekkers and more. The partnership is meant to help Implus develop in the running retail channel. Balega develops its range of performance socks at a South African production plant, using high-quality American-made yarns. Balega's management is to stay on board and help to integrate the brand into Implus. Balega's founder, Bert Pictor, will continue as senior vice president; Chris Bevin will remain as vice president of sales; and Tanya Pictor will be the vice president of marketing. Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm, teamed up with Implus' management in April to acquire a majority stake in the business from Trilantic Capital Partners.
