A team of researchers at Aalto University in Finland has developed an eco-friendly wax coating to make garments water-resistant. The treatment is said to be non-toxic while offering the necessary breathability and natural feel, according to the researchers. The new natural wax is obtained using carnauba wax, which is found on the leaves of palm trees in some parts of Brazil. The wax coating is, however, not resistant to detergents, and is thus best suited to garments that need infrequent washing, such as jackets.
