The global non-profit environmental organization CDP, based in Berlin, has recognized Lenzing’s commitment along the supply chain to drive the transition to a sustainable economy. The Austrian manufacturer of sustainable specialty fibers is now a member of the CDP Supplier Engagement Leaderboard, ranking among the top 7 percent of all companies assessed.
Stefan Doboczky, CEO of the Lenzing Group, said, “We work closely with our suppliers to catalyze change for the better. In order to achieve our ambitious climate goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050, we evaluate the sustainability performance of our suppliers.” By the end of 2019, Lenzing had assessed 89 percent of its key suppliers.
Sonya Bhonsle, global head of value chains at CDP, emphasized that companies’ emissions do not end at the factory door: “CDP’s data shows that, on average, a company’s supply chain emissions are 11.4 times greater than its direct emissions. Meaningful climate action by companies means working with their suppliers to reduce emissions throughout the value chain. Despite the challenges of Covid-19, nearly 400 companies earned a spot on CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leaderboard in 2020.”
The Leaderboard list of almost 400 companies from all business sectors also includes JD Sports Fashion, Kering, Lululemon Athletica and VF Corp. You can see the full list on CDP’s website.
