While devastating fires in the states of Oregon, Washington and California on the U.S. west coast threaten and destroy lives, property and nature, the footwear brand Keen has decided to donate 1 percent of its U.S. sales from keenfootwear.com, up to a total of $20,000, to relief programs. The money will go to the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette’s Wildfire Response and Recovery Fund and the United Way Bay Area’s Greater Bay Area Central Coast Wildfire Relief Fund. The money will be used to help provide displaced people with access to food, shelter, childcare, medical care and other essential services. “As we huddle in our homes, looking out at a Martian sky and trying to block out the smell of smoke flooding through our walls, our hearts go out to all of the Western communities experiencing another massive and destructive fire season,” Keen wrote in a statement on its website.
