Seattle-based outdoor company Outdoor Research (OR) continues the important conversation about creating a more inclusive space in the outdoor community with a new film, Escaladoradie. The short film tells the story of OR ambassador Monserrat Alvarez Matehuala, who is creating a space where women of color can come together as a community through climbing.
Matehuala grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and began climbing while working as an outdoor educator. In Colorado, she began building a richer climbing community through Brown Girls Climb and organizations like Women’s Wilderness. In the film, Matehuala, who draws inspiration from her mother and has a deep connection to her heritage, tells the powerful story of how she creates safe spaces for women of color through climbing.
