Patagonia is one of the winners of a U.N. Champions of the Earth award. The outdoor clothing company has been recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the flagship environmental honor in the entrepreneurial vision category. Patagonia won for its “dynamic mix of policies that has put sustainability at the heart of its successful business model,” as described in UNEP's press release. Since 1986, Patagonia has contributed at least 1 percent of its annual sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. In 2018, the company pledged to give an additional $10 million from the 2017 federal tax cut to grassroots groups defending the environment, and to those involved in regenerative organic agriculture.
