Sympatex Technologies has announced it will introduce a Sympatex membrane in a climate-neutral way for the first time. The material basis of the membrane is the Sympatex copolymer, a compound of polyester and polyether molecules. During the production process, the company and its partner DSM have managed to reduce the carbon footprint of the product. According to Sympatex, this means a 50 percent reduction of CO2 during the production of a Sympatex copolymer in comparison with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) polymer. Furthermore, in order to eliminate any remaining impact on global warming, the company will compensate the CO2 amount of its entire yearly production of membrane starting from 2017 with the support of internationally certified climate protection projects, in cooperation with ClimatePartner, a Munich-based environmental consultancy.
