The Sustainability Working Group (SWG) of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) in the U.S. has launched “The Chemicals Management Framework,” a pilot program to help companies examine the use of chemicals in their supply chains and reduce the environmental impact of their products. The tool, developed by and for the industry after years of collaboration among dozens of outdoor companies, is a groundbreaking roadmap providing companies with a testing ground and a platform to gather and exchange feedback. Any company may participate in the pilot and OIA hopes that a diverse array of companies will join. The Chemicals Management Framework indicators will be integrated into the Higg Index, the tool that OIA has developed in partnership with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), to bolster the chemicals management portion of the Index. Feedback is due by June 1. More on the Chemicals Management Framework Pilot can be found at outdoorindustry.org/cmpilot. The Sustainability Working Group of the OIA is a volunteer collaboration among more than 250 outdoor industry brands, retailers, suppliers and other stakeholders intended to to improve the environmental and social impacts of their global supply chains.
