Timberland has reported on its corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance for the first quarter of 2015. Of the 350 active factories working for the brand at the end of the quarter, 31 percent were rated “accepted,” a percentage slightly lower than in 2014. In footwear production, the global average use of volatile organic compounds remained the same as for the period last year at 49 grams per pair. In apparel production, the use of recycled, organic and renewable materials was roughly 23.2 percent of total textile weight. With regard to leather sourcing, 99.7 percent of Timberland's leather volume came from tanneries scoring Silver or Gold in its Leather Working Group audit. Finally, in the Service pillar, Timberland employees served 19,148 hours of volunteer work for their communities in the year to date, representing an increase of 85.6 percent versus the same period last year.
