VF Corporation, the parent of iconic brands such as Timberland, The North Face, Vans, Wrangler and others, has joined BICEP (Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy), the coalition that advocates innovative climate and clean energy policies. BICEP was launched in 2008 to propose initiatives in the domains of renewable energy, greener transportation and stricter pollution controls on power plants. The initial group of five founding companies, which included Nike, Timberland and Starbucks, has grown to include 28 major companies including eBay and Symantec, representing a broad spectrum of business sectors. VF has announced that it has also signed the Climate Declaration, which brings together companies and individuals calling for federal policymakers in the U.S. to enact clean energy policies. Microsoft also signed the Climate Declaration in September, joining more than 650 other companies that include General Motors, Unilever, Levi Strauss. Two VF brands, The North Face and Timberland, are also among the signatories of the Climate Declaration. VF said that the company has been working to meet its 5 percent greenhouse gas reduction goal ahead of the 2015 target. This progress has been made through a number of initiatives including lighting retrofits, use of solar power, and significant investments and improvements in its heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, along with other energy efficiency measures, at the company's more than 1,700 global locations.
