Due to the indoor climbing trend in Germany and other European markets as well as in the U.S., where it is called vertical fitness, the share of sales generated by boulder halls is steadily increasing. Red Chili, the German brand of climbing products, already gets 20 percent of its sales through distribution to pure boulder halls. The German Alpine Association (DAV) estimates that the number of boulder and climbing halls in Germany is about 400-450, with 150-200 of them being pure boulder halls, mainly with incorporated stores. Local outdoor retailers also benefit from the indoor climbing trend in general as well as from the increasing number of boulder halls. DAV assumes that about 500,000 people are currently climbing in Germany; a number, which is still on the rise.
