Effective Aug. 1, Findos Investor has acquired Maier Sports, the German brand of outdoor and snow wear, along with Gonso, the company's bike wear brand. Maier Sports was owned by the Maier family, led by Gerhard Maier as managing partner, who will seek retirement probably at the beginning of next year. Findos is an equity firm specialized in acquiring German family-owned companies that need to solve succession problems. The investor currently controls companies from various sectors including engineering, software, children's apparel and medical technology. The combined turnover of the firms that Findos controls is said to reach more than €16 billion. Two years ago, Maier Sports had to file for bankruptcy after it was exhausted from the integration of an acquired sportswear brand, US40. Partly thanks to the support of family members, Gerhard Maier managed to steer the group out of dire straits and to position it again as a highly popular vendor among retailers in the German-speaking countries. The company declined to provide detailed figures, but its turnover is estimated to reach between €25 million and €30 million.
