Columbia Sportswear has appointed Shawn Cox as senior vice president of retail, a newly created position that reports directly to Tim Boyle, president and chief executive officer. The 49-year-old Cox will be responsible for leading the company's brick-and-mortar retail and ecommerce operations in the U.S., Europe and Canada. Cox has 24 years of experience in the branded retail industry with operations in the U.S., Europe, South America, Middle East and Asia. He worked for Mexx, the international Dutch-based fashion group controlled by Liz Claiborne from 2009 until 2011, as global senior vice president of retail, managing the company's 300 own retail stores in 15 countries. He also assumed the post of regional vice president overseeing Mexx' wholesale business with more than 500 locations in 54 countries. From 2007 to 2009 he worked as global chief retail officer for Samsonite. Previously, he was vice president of Tommy Hilfiger's European retail division.
