Orvis has announced the selection of William R. McLaughlin as its new president. He replaces Raymond G. McCready, who will retire later this year. McLaughlin, who is a former PepsiCo executive and chief executive of Select Comfort, will assume the post on July 27. At Pepsi, McLaughlin managed several international businesses and rose to become president of Frito Lay Europe, Middle East and Africa. From 2000 to 2012, he was president and chief executive of Select Comfort, the U.S.-based manufacturer of the Sleep Number bed, which he reportedly grew from $250 million to $800 million in sales. At Select Comfort, he built Sleep Number into a multi-channel business. Orvis, which was founded in 1856 in Manchester, Vermont, is America's oldest mail-order outfitter and longest continually-operating fly-fishing business. Orvis now operates a multi-channel business with a comprehensive website, more than 90 retail stores in the U.S and the U.K., and more than 400 independent dealers worldwide.
