Patagonia has created a new role of vice president of marketing and assigned it to Joy Howard, who served most recently in a similar position at Converse. She began her career in marketing at Johnson & Johnson and later became global marketing director for the joint venture between Coca-Cola and Nestlé, based in Zurich. Before her marketing career, Howard worked as a recording artist. She then got an MBA in Sustainable Enterprise from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after reading Paul Hawken's “The Ecology of Commerce.”
