GTX Corporation, which makes two-way GPS equipment, has been granted several patents in the U.S. that it will use to put GPS location devices in shoes. The patents include 21 independent claims, which the company says means anyone else who wants to make GPS-enabled footwear would need a license from GTX. Currently the company is working with Aetrex Worldwide on a shoe called the “Ambulator”, which is designed to help keep track of Alzheimer’s patients with a tendency to wander off.
