Intersport Germany announced a tremendous sales score by its affiliated retailers for the month of January. Sales were up by 27 percent, largely due to splendid weather conditions. Usually such increases are recorded when the comparable month of the previous year saw poor results, but sales in January 2008 showed an increase of 13 percent. The outdoor segment grew by 14 percent last year for Intersport, and among the top 10 brands sold by Intersport retailers, six were pure or outdoor-related suppliers including Schöffel, Lowa, Salomon, Odlo and The North Face. While Adidas and Nike continue to stand firmly as Nos. 1 and 2, Jack Wolfskin is now third, having overtaken Puma. On the ranks 11 through 20, more outdoor brands appear, including Meindl, K2 (with Marmot) and Mammut. The Swiss brand jumped significantly from No. 20 to 14. Sport 2000 Germany is apparently a little bit less outdoor-driven, at least as far as the top suppliers are concerned: Jack Wolfskin and the Tecnica Group (including Lowa) swapped their ranks with Wolfskin climbing from No. 6 to 5. The same is true for Salomon and K2 with Salomon now at No. 8. The next important outdoor-oriented suppliers of Sport 2000 are Odlo at No. 12 and Schöffel at No. 15, followed by VF (The North Face) and Mammut. Meindl ranks No. 19.
