A new program of courses has been launched in the Italian city of Montebelluna to help find and train new employees for the numerous outdoor shoe companies in the region, which are facing a labor shortage. The new program, called Sportsystem Training School (STS), started on May 11 at the city's Museo dello Scarpone (Boot Museum). The program is also designed to update the know-how of the existing workforce, starting with the use of computer-aided design. Similar problems are reportedly being encountered by German shoemakers like Lowa, Meindl and Hanwag at their own local plants as well as by contract manufacturers in Eastern European countries like Slovakia and Romania.
