Black Diamond Inc. is recalling a batch of avalanche airbags using JetForce technology because they may malfunction and fail to deploy, although no injuries have been reported. The recall relates to airbags sold between November 15, 2014 and July 7, 2015 under the Black Diamond, Pieps and Poc brands. Black Diamond says the malfunctions can be resolved with a firmware update at one of its global service centers. JetForce technology works with a battery operated electric motor. It was developed as an alternative to air cartridges traditionally used for avalanche bags, which have to be recharged after each use and can not be transported by commercial airlines.
