European importers may be able to recover some of the anti-dumping duties that they had to pay for shoes sourced in China and Vietnam. Responding to a complaint filed by Puma, the financial court of Munich has formally asked the European Court of Justice to issue a verdict on the matter. Timberland had filed a similar complaint with a court in the Netherlands, but the procedure took longer than the one in Germany. The European body will have the option to decide whether the European Commission will have to give back all or some of the money, or none. It also may shift the burden of the decision to a national court. In any case, the compensation would only cover three of the four and half years in which the anti-dumping duties were enforced.
