Hohenstein, a textile testing provider and Oeko-Tex founding member, has been authorized by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to assess companies and products for the Grüner Knopf (”Green Button”), a German government’s seal for sustainable textiles. The companies that wish to certify their products with the seal must comply with 46 social and environmental criteria, including 20 corporate and 26 social and environmental product criteria. The conditions and criteria are set by the BMZ, while independent testing bodies like Hohenstein, approved and trained by the BMZ, monitor compliance with the criteria. All companies that manufacture and/or distribute textiles can apply.
