Clim8, an ingredient brand offering a self-regulating thermal function, reached consumers for the first time in November in a range launched by K2, the South Korean outdoor brand. Clim8 is the ingredient brand that was launched last year by partners including Florian Miguet, formerly in charge of the Salewa and Dynafit brands in Asia-Pacific. It uses tiny sensors integrated directly into the yarns, which track various factors and activate warmth in the baselayer. Paired with an app, the garment becomes intelligent, as it gains knowledge about the user's thermal profile and the environment. K2 is the first brand to integrate Clim8 in its baselayer for men, available in more than 40 stores around the country, but Clim8 says it has tests running with several other brands in Europe and the U.S. It previously led a testing campaign in December 2016 with Ispo Innovation Platform, involving more than 1,800 hours of testing by 36 people from six countries. Clim8 was established last year by Miguet, its chief executive, together with Pierre Mouette, chief technology officer, and Julien Gueritee, who holds a PhD in thermophysiology and is in charge of research and development at Clim8. They have raised €0.6 million from BPI France and two private banks, and are planning another fundraiser for the second quarter of 2018.
