Columbia Sportswear wants to remain ahead of its competitors when it comes to innovation, even going so far as to create a “road map” through 2015. The company outlined some of its plans at a presentation in Park City, Utah, where it debuted some of its products for autumn 2012. Most notable is its introduction of “Omni-Wind Block”, a follow up to its popular “Omni-Heat” technology that is breathable and lightweight while being windproof and waterproof. The company still plans to capitalize on Omni-Heat as well as “Omni-Dry” and “Omni-Wick EVAP”, and some products from its “Trail” collection will feature all three technologies. And it will continue to splash vibrant color around its lines, bucking the general outdoor trend of using muted tones. Columbia's iconic “Bugaboot” has been upgraded to be lighter, more durable and more protective than ever. As part of its marketing for next autumn, Columbia is going to send consumers to Yakutsk, Siberia, the coldest city in the world with an average annual temperature of negative 32 degree Celsius. The point is to emphasize the properties of Omni-Heat Reflective.
