Oeko-Tex is replacing its Standard 1000 classification for environmentally friendly and sustainable companies. The new standard, Sustainable Textile Production (STeP), will be presented to the public at the Prime Source Forum in Hong Kong on March 26. The certification will launch on June 12, when Oeko-Tex presents its Sustainability Award in Frankfurt. The goal of the certification is to provide textile brands, retail companies and manufacturers worldwide with transparent and trustworthy documentation of their sustainable production conditions. It analyzes quality management, use of chemicals, environmental protection and management, social responsibility, and health and safety. Certified companies will be subject to unannounced audits.
