Schoeller Textil has introduced a new line of biodegradable fabrics, called Proearth, as part of its joint venture with Formosa Taffeta, Schoeller FTC. The bluesign-approved collection uses a biodegradable polyester technology that will allow the material to degrade faster than other offers on the market, the company claims. First presented at the Première Vision trade show in Paris last month, the line consists of fabrics for jackets, pants and linings, and it comes in various colors. The fabrics can be enhanced with Schoeller's ecodye, ecorepel Bio, and 3XDRY Bio production technologies to save water, energy and processing time in dyeing polyester. The Swiss textile specialist says it has launched Proearth to help offset textile waste, of which more than 16 million tons are produced in the U.S. alone each year.
