The winners of the Outdoor Retailer Inspiration Awards, presented by Adidas Outdoor, were announced on June 18, during the first evening of the OR Summer Market, in Denver. The candidates were judged on their impact, creativity, philanthropy, sustainability, engagement, longevity and other criteria. The winners were: Jenny Bruso, founder of the Instagram community Unlikely Hikers (Individual category); Vericool, maker of recyclable and biodegradable cold-shipping containers (Manufacturer); Arrive, which rents out camping gear and delivers it to customers' residences or to their camping destinations in the continental U.S. (Retailer); City Kids Wilderness Project, a youth group with an outdoor focus in Washington, D.C. (Nonprofit); and Joseph Goldstein, the 16-year-old founder of Kids for the Boundary Waters, which hopes to preserve the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota from mining pollution (Youth). The Manufacturer and Retailer awards were sponsored by Pay Pal. In addition, Larry Burke and Greg Thomsen won Lifetime Achievement Awards. Burke is the founder, chairman and editor-in-chief of Outside magazine and its expansion, Outside Integrated Media. In its 40-some-year history, Outside has developed multiple platforms and now reaches about 40 million people every month. Thomsen has been active in the outdoor industry since 1970 – as a climbing guide, salesman, specialty retailer, product designer and marketer. About a decade ago, he also led the launch of Adidas Outdoor.
