E-mobility startup Urban Drivestyle Berlin has presented the first prototype of a four-wheeled cabin pedelec called the Duo Moke. With its fat tires, it is more reminiscent of an e-Kettcar or an e-beach buggy. On its blog, the company displays it as a stylish e-mobile for cool urban jungle tours.
So far, the brand has made a name for itself with its unusual e-bikes and e-pedal scooters, whose look lies somewhere between BMX and Stingray bikes. But what distinguishes all of Urban Drivestyle’s pedelecs so far is the use of fat tires.
This is also the case with the Duo Moke, which the company claims is “the world’s first and only 20x4-inch fat-wheel cab bike.” Legally, the pedelec, which can go up to 25 km/h (like the four-wheeled Future Mobility Concept unveiled by Canyon Bicycles last September), is also a multi-track bicycle that doesn’t require insurance or a driver’s license. Plus, you can use it legally on bike paths. While “the most stable and largest chrome steel frame design in its class” and the battery pack (Silverfish 48-volt lithium-ion battery with Samsung cells 14.5 and 20.4 amp-hours, respectively) are made in Germany, the 250-watt brushless rear hub motor comes out of the Polish factory of Chinese e-drivetrain maker Bafang in Wrocławskie.
Whether the prototype will actually go into series production is (still) unclear. However, it is surprising that Urban Drivestyle communicates a vague retail price of around €5,000. Considering the equipment and the focus on “Made in Germany and the EU,” this will certainly represent a real challenge for the Berlin-based company.
