Recon Instruments, the Vancouver-based technology firm behind the heads-up displays (HUD) for sports, has announced that Motorola Solutions, through its investment arm Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, has made an investment in the company. The investment will be used by Recon to accelerate product development and to ramp up global marketing and distribution. Motorola Solutions is interested in commercializing HUD technology that Recon developed for goggles and other sports applications. In November, Recon introduced the fourth generation of their heads up display for skiers and snowboarders, the Recon Snow2. The device is designed to work with goggles from a number of manufacturers including Oakley, Smith, Scott, Uvex, Alpina, Briko and Zeal. Recon's technology has been developed using an open platform, to encourage third-party software developers to create apps for a variety of sports.
