Bergzeit, the big German-based online outdoor retailer, has become a member of Sport 2000, the German buying group, joining other pure players like 11teamsports and Keller Sports. According to its management, the benefits of the move include access to special make-ups and to the marketplaces of Sport 2000, plus help in accounting through its system of centralized settlements. As reported in SGI Europe, the German buying group is now also responsible for Switzerland and the Benelux countries. Bergzeit, which was taken over by Sportler seven years ago, remains a member of Eurofamily, to which both retailers and others belong, giving them access to a common private label, Meru. With 500,000 customers in 23 countries, Bergzeit generated a turnover of €65 million in the past year.
