Last year, Oxylane, the group that owns Décathlon, reached total sales of €7 billion, corresponding to an increase of 7.2 percent compared with 2011. On a comparable store basis, the turnover went up by 1.3 percent. After its entry into Taiwan with one point of sale last June, the French retail group is now operational in 19 countries worldwide. Altogether, Oxylane had 736 stores at the end of 2012, 57 more than 12 months before. The Décathlon banner alone lifted the total number of its stores by 57 to 653 on a net basis. In France, which contributed 43.5 percent of the global sales, the number stores increased by six to 256. At the end of last year, the most important markets by the number of shops were Spain with 97 (+5), Italy with 85 (+8) and China with 54 (+15). In all markets the net number of outlets was up with the exceptions of Sweden, the Czech Republic and Hungary where it remained stable. In Portugal, the chain shrunk temporarily by one store to 21 due to a fire. Décathlon has singled out China, Brazil and India as focus markets for its future expansion (more in SGI Europe).
