McTrek, the price-driven German specialty retail chain, increased its sales by 17 percent to €26.5 million last year. In the same period, the chain added four stores and now counts 21. On a comparable basis turnover slipped slightly. For the current year, McTrek intends to open two more stores, including one in the Bavarian town of Rosenheim on March 23. Additionally, the group will build a central warehouse to handle the company's online business. Currently, the internet orders are handled and shipped from the various outlets. McTrek's owner, Ulrich Dausien, told this publication that the outdoor sector has become increasingly difficult, not only because of unfavorable weather conditions, but also due to the excessive surplus of points of sale across the country. The mild weather has led to aggressive discount campaigns by online and offline retailers alike.
