The NPD Group has announced the winners of its first Outdoor Sports Industry Performance Awards. The awards recognize the fastest-growing brands of 2020 in key outdoor categories in the U.S., including snowsports equipment. This is according to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service, which collects data from more than 600,000 retail stores in the U.S., as well as e-commerce and mobile platforms. The service measures what consumers are buying so that suppliers can meet their needs while achieving data-driven growth for their businesses, NPD said.
According to data pulled from the U.S. Retail Tracking Service, the outdoor market generated $6.1 billion in U.S. retail sales in 2020 (Jan.-Dec.), and specialty snow products bring in $2.5 billion between August and December 2020. As consumers sought ways to be active, be outdoors and practice social distancing in their backyards and other outdoor environments, camping (+36 percent), aquatics (+19 percent) and other areas of the market experienced year-over-year sales growth.
The top-performing 2020 brands in the U.S., based on year-over-year dollar sales growth, were: Gregory (accessories), Buff (apparel), Hoka One One (footwear), Dometic (equipment accessories), Nemo (camping), Bote Paddle Boards (water sports) and Thule (snow equipment).
