The beta testing phase is currently under way for the Eco Index collaboration between the Outdoor Industry Association and the European Outdoor Group (see the previous issue of this publication). There are currently 80 companies enrolled in the testing of the index, and more companies are invited to join. Companies are participating in the pilot launch in a variety of ways, such as practicing application of the Eco Index using a generic bill of materials (BOM) and applying the Eco Index to products/facilities and conducting a “desktop review” of the overall Eco Index content and structure. A stakeholder engagement period, open through December, will also include a third-party review of the Index conducted by a group of environmental advocacy organizations, investors and the academic community.
