The Big Gear Show – a new American outdoor trade show for hardgoods in paddling, cycling, climbing and camping – has appointed a former Outdoor Retailer director, Kenji Haroutunian, as its show director. Haroutunian has more than 30 years of experience in the outdoor industry and was group show director for the Nielsen Sports Outdoor Group (now Emerald) from 2007 to 2015 and responsible for the Outdoor Retailer and Fly Fishing Retailer shows. He has also contributed to a variety of initiatives, such as the Outdoor Media Summit, and is a board member of the Access Fund, Friends of Joshua Tree and the California Outdoor Recreation Partnership. The Big Gear Show, scheduled for July 21-25 at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, also announced earlier that it hired Lance Camisasca as bike show director. Camisasca most recently spent two years as an independent event consultant. For a decade before that, he was president of Lifeboat Events, which he also founded. Earlier still, he spent 11 years as group show director for Interbike International.
