Burton and Nitro, two leading snowboarding companies, have joined the European Outdoor Group (EOG), widening the remit of the organization. Burton and Nitro have both become full members, and Salomon is adding its snowboard business to its existing membership. The EOG said that this highlights the alignment and synergy between parts of the board sports sector and the traditional outdoor industry. It explained that snowboarding products from these three leading brands are typically sold alongside outdoor brands in retail, and that plenty of other EOG members already operate in the snowboard market. The expansion was also described as a reflection of the evolving definition of outdoor, driven by consumer behavior. It could be added that this evolving view on the market was one of the key drivers behind the new concept for the Outdoor trade fair as outlined a few weeks ago by Messe München for its Outdoor by Ispo event. The joiners raise the number of full members to 102 and the EOG has another ten associate members.
