From Jan. 1-31, 2021, AdventureCORPS, the organizers of the Badwater® ultramarathon races in Death Valley, USA, and elsewhere, will host a new event called Badwater® 267 VR. Unlike other Badwater races, which take place in remote locations and are typically limited to a small field of invited or specially qualified runners, Badwater 267 VR is a virtual race and will therefore be open to runners and athletes around the world.

Participants in the Badwater 267 VR will run the courses of all three Badwater races (82-km Badwater Cape Fear, 130-km Badwater Salton Sea and 217-km Badwater 135) virtually and consecutively, for a total of 429 kilometers. These are the three events that normally make up the legendary Badwater Ultra Cup.

Beginning one second after midnight on New Year’s Day, participants have 31 days to complete all three distances on foot (cycling, swimming and multisport divisions are also offered, with different distance requirements), and they can do them anywhere they want, including on a treadmill or indoor track. Participants log their kilometers run daily on the event’s dedicated RunSignUp page, and there’s also a Facebook event page to bring everyone together. There is even a spectator division for those who don’t want to or can’t run the entire distance but want to watch the event and get some Badwater gear: Participants will receive a Badwater medal, tech shirt, buff and sunglasses after the event.

Registration for the race is now open, with over 360 runners already registered.
