The Financial Times reports that IMG is taking Tough Mudder, the extreme obstacle course race born in the U.S. six years ago, to China, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates this year before its further expansion to Japan, South Korea and Singapore in 2017. There will be a total of 122 Tough Mudder events in ten countries this year, many of them in Europe. The privately owned company that organizes Tough Mudder made a profit of $5 million on revenues of $100 million last year, says the FT. Merrell is a sponsor of Tough Mudder. Another new sponsor is Microsoft with its Band fitness tracking smartwatch.
