Vibram USA, the North American subsidiary of the Italian sole maker, has acquired the soling assets of Quabaug Corporation, its U.S. manufacturing and distribution partner since 1965. Their activities are to be integrated into Quabaug Vibram Innovation (QVI). Vibram said the aim of the acquisition was to maintain its U.S.-based craftsmanship and quality, and to improve customer service in North America. The integration of QVI will enable Vibram to focus its resources on the development and sale of North American products. The Italian company intends to invest in QVI with advanced manufacturing technologies and equipment. The two companies have been working together for five decades to design and manufacture performance, functional rubber compounds for the outdoor, athletic, military and industrial markets. The licensing agreement between Vibram and Quabaug was modified four years ago with Vibram taking over product development, sales and marketing for the soles made by the company in the U.S.
