While the whole world is watching with distress, worry and compassion the catastrophe that happened in Japan last week, it should not been forgotten that New Zealand was hit by another earthquake shortly before that. Icebreaker raised donations worth 78,429 New Zealand dollars (€41,320-$58,249) for the victims of the disaster in Christchurch. The fund-raising happened on March 3 in the company's own stores called ?TouchLabs? in New Zealand, Australia and North America as well as in its U.S. online store. The campaign was limited to one day that was 57 hours long due to the time shift between New Zealand and the North American West Coast. The money was donated to the Red Cross. Last year, Icebreaker reached sales of around $100 million, and it has doubled its turnover within the last three years. The largest markets of the Merino wool specialty brand are its Kiwi home country and Germany, where sales soared by 55 percent from winter 2009 to winter 2010.
