Cake, the Swedish manufacturer of lightweight electric performance motorcycles and a member of the Scandinavian Outdoor Group (SOG), has signed a letter of intent with Northvolt, a Swedish battery developer and manufacturer, to form a long-term partnership for the supply of sustainable battery cells for their line-up of electric motorcycles. With large-scale production starting in 2021, Northvolt plans to manufacture the greenest batteries in the world, upholding a commitment to a minimal carbon footprint and the highest standards for recycling. The company’s cell manufacturing plant is powered by 100 percent renewable energy and they embrace the principles and practices of a circular economy at every opportunity. Northvolt also says sourcing materials from responsible suppliers, and ensuring that their supply and distribution chain is free from conflict, child labor, and human rights abuse
The initial phase of the partnership between Cake and Northvolt will happen during 2021. Over the next year, teams will be developing the technology, engineering product, and launching the initial phase of product field testing. The goal is to bring the Northvolt battery cells for Cake’s future battery technology to market with various motorcycle models during the first half of 2022.
